Grace and Courtesy
Respect in ActionRespect in Action
If your child has been in Montessori school, or you follow any Montessori mom blogs, you may have heard of “Grace and Courtesy”. It’s a whole section of the curriculum in Montessori schools and it just means the skills children need to learn to eat, move, talk, and hang out with others in respectful ways (some lessons could be called good manners or etiquette, but it goes beyond that.)
Even when it’s part of the curriculum, I found it didn’t really get presented as much as it should at a lot of Montessori schools – unless they had reminders. So I created the original version of these cards to help educators do their jobs a little better and with more ease. So many parents wanted copies, that I’m sharing them with you to introduce how magical it can be to show your children how to do things that are grown up – and especially hard ones (with lots of steps to remember or physically challenging tasks). Children can’t be given confidence – it can only be earned. Help your children master hard tasks and watch their self-esteem soar. Enjoy!
